soundsnap.

********
i remember a conversation
that took place in our farmhouse kitchen
back when i was a mere girl.
a conversation amongst
my mother and her girlfriends....

they all grew up together.
went to school together.
married at the same age.
and gave birth to a passel of kids
all at the same time.

they were saying they were of the age
where their friends were starting to die off.

and that's how i felt today as i looked around the room
at all the people gathered in that chapel
where i attended a memorial service.
i leaned forward and whispered into a friend's ear:
how come there's no young people here??

i was glad i had worn my
blue
bad-ass
floor-stomping
fiorentini-and-baker
leather boots:
the soundsnap on the linoleum
brought joy to my soul
with each step i took.

even with death all around:
life is good.
this dance is so sweet.
