Life in the present.
******
It's like this:
Every morning I wake, and before heading down the stairs,
with intention
I dress for the day.
Handmade dress, leggings, fleece.
Lately, because of hunker-down hair,
I tie a knitted wrap encompassing my brow.
Even before feeding the madding crowd,
even before doing anything other than gulp some water,
the pack and I go out the door and up Coyote Hill.
This is how we begin our day,
with birdsong,
with the creaking of trees swaying in the wind,
with the warmth of not-winter breezes on my face.
This is how we begin our day,
with one dog and the other dog
freely meandering about,
the cat on his leash.
This is how we begin our day,
thanksgiving and gratefulness filling my heart,
joy in my eyes,
my soul singing a poem of
hallelujah.
