Not-Winter.

***

After an on-again-off-again break up season, it's official:
almost all the snow has melted,
the garden dirt has been tractor-tilled once,
deck dirtpots have been sown with flower seeds,
and most mornings the overnight low temperature is above 40F.

It's hard to believe that we have moved past Winter one more time.
It's almost hard to believe that I deserve to feel this warming sunlight.
And it's definitely wonderful to see leaves slowly unfolding on the deciduous trees.

It's been a lovely and easy true break up season:
we entered Winter with the ground in an unfrozen state,
and the first several snows were dry and powdery, insulating the ground.
Once break up began, the snow melted down instead of running off.
The ground is rather squishy and soft right now.

This year's garden will produce poppies and kale and beets and carrots.
Oh, yeah, and some peas.
Keeping it simple with a focus on what feeds my soul.

It's a good life...

the very first photo posted above was taken before the garden shed its snow,
and way before the dirt was turned over.
