birthday. yes. another.

today i celebrate a very special friend.

here's the story.

my heart was broken and shot clear through

after the death of my favourite pooch.

from 2004 to 2007 i swore up and down

"cannot look at another dog, yet."

a close friend insisted i break that cycle.

she blew up our computer with email after email

from shelters round the world.

literally.

round the world.

photos of dogs needing to be rescued.

THEN....

in november of 2007

this little fellow's photo showed up in our inbox.

his original name was:

mister wiggles.

my dear husband and i knew we were going to adopt

this little poodle-dachshund. 

all the way to the shelter

we tried out new names.

twiggy.

figgy.

wiggy.

you get the idea.

not 'til michael said

"we'll take him"

and set him on the counter to sign the papers

did the name

ZIGGY

pop out of michael's mouth.

and there you have it.

zig loves to go boating.

zig loves to fish.

zig loves to work with me every night.

zig pours out his best onto everyone needing his love

and attention.

my heart swells with love

every time i gaze into his eyes.
