wednesday.
awoke at 0730
feeling:
sore.
defeated.
ungrateful.
lay'd in bed
and
tried my best to muster up a prayer.
you who know me best know that
i have a higher power
and
i'm not it.
[smile]
so my prayer went something like this:
i'm gonna get up now
and
just do my best to do my best.
out of bed.
hot bath.
dressed for chiropractor appointment.
and, so,
as it happens a couple times a year around here
i gathered up
extraneous items
and
bagged them up.
freshly laundered pillows and blankets
were delivered
here:
one year has passed
that our local shelter
gained the status
of
"no kill".
see the name of the shelter?
we don't have
"counties"
here in alaska.
we have
"boroughs"
"boroughs"
and
the one in which i live is
the matanuska-susitna borough.
defined by
the matanuska river
and
the susitna river.
today i travel'd with:
ziggy starfire bacon jones.
he's dressed like a teenager today:
long t-shirt
hanging out beneath
a
hoodie.
yes.
he is one high-fashion pooch.
our next stop:
meet:
heather.
we call her
"blue"
"blue"
because she had bright blue highlights in her hair.
hi, blue.
two soy chai lattes to go, please.
oh, and:
two dog biscuits.
there's an espresso stand
on almost every corner
or
situated every few miles.
someone once told me that espresso stands
are an alaskan phenomenon.
elsewhere "outside"
people actually walk into starbucks
or
a coffee shop.
life is "on the go" here in alaska.
we live on the go
and
we drink our coffee [and tea] on the go.
and as we pull away we see:
charley two-feathers.
he's been a friend for several years.
[he and ziggy look alike, wouldn't you say?]
[scroll back up to ziggy's photo....]
so i'm standing there
talking to charley
and he points out:
a teenager
dressed in pumpkin orange and white tights.
charley and i laughed so hard.
we think she heard us.
[sorry....but thanks for the laugh.]
headed northward and homeward.
here's the matanuska riverbed.
king mountain
and
pinnacle mountain.
these mountains
are across the river
and
are part of the chugach mountain range.
and just turning the camera a bit
we see:
eska mountain
and
granite peak.
on "this" side of the matanuska river
and
part of the talkeetna mountain range.
thanks for tagging along.
i feel much better
knowing
*you*
are my friends
and
you love me.

Grateful you didn't have to run around all night taking care of others. Grateful for Mr 2 feathers and Blue with the most gorgeous teeth ever, mountains, rivers and little Zig just to name a few, and that sunny day, the list is long and you know that.

thank you for reminders, ro.
