the woodcarving workshop.

viking hall.
seriously: need i say more?

apparently woodcarvers eat carbs for breakfast.
no fruit in sight.
so: i held out for lunch.

here's my spot.

diamond willow.
bark shaved off save for the diamonds:
i'm here to learn how to carve them out.
enhance them.

my lap.
yes: i wore a dress + leggings + boots.

incentive for when one really gets good at carving.
this was at the entryway.

drank usual water and tea:
hence, i ended up here many times.

carving....

tools....
[i wasn't there to chat....i was there to CARVE.]

ahhhh.
lunch: pickles. salmon/halibut soup.
[ro: i had considered taking my own bowl but i forgot it.]
[it's sacrilege to eat out of styrofoam when one owns edclay pottery.]

my man: he sat at the table behind me.
i had many opportunities to turn around and gaze at him.
he was in the "tool sharpening class".

progress....

and, here's jake.
he's 15.
wore a wool suit coat, bow tie.

chatted-up his mother:
jake is homeschool'd and one of a kind.
we bonded over agreeing *we* should have been homeschool'd.
"weird" is how we described ourselves as children.

jake and his beautiful mother.

so: if you read saturday's blog entry.
you'll know i said:
"i'd rather chew my arms off than go woodcarving."
*who* would have known:
i had so much fun.
the shavings from my work fell into this heart shape.

*love* carving diamond willow.
[class over.]

stopped at *mirror lake* to let the dogs run.
they were so good: stayed in the truck all day.
we went out several times to walk them.

bears were in the area!
why am i smiling??

homeward:
eska mountain on left.
granite peak to right of eska.

and here she is: the finished product.
my diamond willow walking stick.

thanks for tagging along, my friends....

Oohhh, I want a diamond willow walking stick, no bears here, but rattle snakes enough in the prairies... I like little Jake and his good ma... it's hard to raise kids to be so darned neat, and homeschool at that... working with Eli one hour a night gets me all antsy... add... hope my Eli doesn't pick it up:)

You've a very great craft in your sight, working with wood is intriguing... going against the grain, very hands on... a good energy connection, grounding... all that sweet stuff... I bet it will be very hard to let go of your makes once you are done:)

Bet you a walking stick:P

That walking stick is gorgeous, and you made this on your first workshop! My goodness marie!

I love how your wood shavings fell into a heart shaped bowl...the soup looked so yummy, and I did not notice styrofoam until you mentioned it...I love paper plates myself (hee hee)

oooh, bears...that would make me very excited!

well, funny thing: was thinking about all my cybergirlfriends and how many sticks to carve this winter :)

have to go out and harvest them first, let them dry, then carve over the winter. keep in touch!

Oh my! It looks like you both had a good bit of fun! Jake is adorable I like a man that "dresses" for crafts and you with jewelry.

I see callouses in your future!

I'm glad you filled your pockets with shavings and bears.....almost bears :)

xo, Ro
