resolutions: january blog-o-sphere think tank.

********

in a previous life --
the one where it really didn't matter whom i hurt with my words and actions,
the one where i didn't even care if i hurt myself --
i would make these
"new year resolutions"
believing that just because the year was new, i could shed the old me, the old ways,
just like a reptile sheds its skin.
i would write out these resolutions and announce them to the world:
these are the changes i am making.
this will be the new me.

and then the resolutions fell flat.
belly up.
gone and forgotten.

in this new life i live, my awareness is more palpable, more real,
all the more with concern for others,
all the more with concern for my self.

therefore, i live day to day.
i make plans for each day, and at the end of the day,
i take personal inventory.
i examine how i did with that day's resolutions.

new year's resolutions?
no.
new day's resolutions?
you bet'cha'….

YES! Great post, totally agree with the daily assessment.

I think the daily workings put a real focus on being accountable, for owning your actions. You're doing such vital work.
And what would be the fun of agreeing with *anyone* 100% of the time? It's just not logical!

perfect. and exactly.

It's like you've written a poem, a chant or recorded your meditation and it's lovely. It can't be done with resolutions because the changes happen ever so slowly as the days tick by.

I can feel this.

I like the concern for one's self. New day, new resolution. Check each day. YES!

It's a new year.
All the promises!
I'm going to be this. I'm going to do that.
It's all so exhausting and futile.
Every day is different and expect the unexpected.
All we can do is try to be the best we can, to ourselves and to others. It's a new DAY.

i so agree that personal accountability is the key to living into our hopes and dreams! a regular commitment to checking in with ourselves is actually liberating-- it frees us from the snares and pitfalls of getting too far off track and then giving up. that combined with being open to opportunity... i love john lennon's quote: life is what happen to you while you're busy making other plans.

i'd say happy new year, but perhaps it's more fitting to say "happy new day, after day, after day"!!
