coyote thanksgiving.

********

"where do you think the coyotes are running this year?"
i ask of mister pencilfox.
"i don't know" he says…."maybe down on moose creek."

and so, that's where i headed this cold and windy thanksgiving afternoon,
4-wheel-driving in my jeep.

prayerfully, i looked for tracks in the snow as i placed the turkey carcass
on the banks of moose creek.

i strolled around in silence, listening to the creek as she ran,
my ear training to the song of some lone bird singing its evening song,
somewhere out there in the trees….

****

life is good.

i hope the coyotes find their dinner….

Now those are some well-fed coyotes!! We also leave gifts of food, on the end of the mesa, for the coyotes of the high desert. xx

They'll find it. They'll find it and, in their own coyote way, be grateful for a meal they didn't have to expend energy chasing and taking down, grateful for the woman who gifts her tribe.

That's right! I almost forgot you take the bird down to the rivers edge!
For your brothers and sisters of the wild hill.
The thought of it all just brings the biggest smile EVER, Bernard!
Moose creek. What a fine place for coyotes to give thanks.

mister pencilfox informed me that there are foxes that run the creek, as well. yesterday when i drove over the bridge, i saw ravens enjoying the "kill", as well….

i am so. far. behind., yet again... but trying to catch up.
this is so cool. i wish that you could do a live-cam and see the critters who come upon this feast. i bet they'd wave a thankful paw to you just to let you know how grateful they are. maybe next year...
