mister pencilfox remembered that i wanted to make balm of gilead
from the buds of cottonwood trees.
he did most of the work, gathering branches, carrying them to me,
assuring my comfort and safety.
i remain confined to a sling, and so,
quite carefully held branches with my right hand, snapping buds with my left hand.
next step, the buds infuse in olive oil for several months' time.
then, the oil is mixed with beeswax and the balm is created.

the balm has a deep heady fragrance,
and although i love it simply for its scent,
it has medicinal properties, as well.

it was good to be outdoors in the company of my little pencilfox family….

Healing. From nature and family! Love.
What a great idea, the buds from your beloved trees, giving you the medicine you need. The scent must be amazing.

I've never heard of this, but it sounds lovely! and of course you are working as a team, a well-oiled machine in motion. this seems to be a very satisfying activity for your recovery phase, and I love that Milo is helping!

Love the picture of your kitty helper! That looks amazing - the sticky residue on your hands means lots of goodness to be extracted into the balm. Getting back into wildcrafting has been on my list of things to do for a while...

There's nothing like a healthy harvest of wild goodness! You've got me ready to head to the mountains in search of rosehips and other goodies myself!
Remember to relax, woman! We want you healed and ready for summer! xx

Ohhh, that sound quite lovely! I've been searching the ground for the first nettles, but right now all that's up is the mother-wort, though I may do something with that as well.

the buds are already expanding and infusing their sap into the oil….

which native and wild things do you wish to gather?

i will not be completely healed by "summer"….so it is good for me to do what i can right now. but, thanks for your reminder to relax. i don't do it often or well-enough!
