Snowshoe'ing with Berry.
*****
[Click on the words above and read it for yourself.]
It applies so wisely not just for animals
but for people, too.
At least that's what I learned this past week when Life hit me hard right between the eyes.
So here I am with this teeny-tiny doggie that came to me
by an Act of the Universe,
serendipity or synchronicity or God or what have you,
whichever way you believe,
whichever dance steps you follow.
Berry is so tiny he just ain't got the body reserve of a larger dog.
If he did, he'd be overweight, and we just c'ain't do that.
Berry has a temperature tolerance of nothing below 20F/-6.6C
and anything below that,
he doesn't seem to like the feel of the cold snow-covered ground beneath his tiny paws.
Yeah, yeah.....I get it.....I could dress him in booties,
but we'd be dressing/undressing several times a day
and I'd much rather adjust me to this situation than adjust him.
Those of you who "read" me here know that I snowshoe almost every day of my life
in the winter
and
I hike every day of my life come not-winter.
I didn't want so big a dog I could not leash him if I had to,
but I didn't know what is involved in having a mere molecule of a dog in my life.
I am smitten.
I can tell you that.
Pintō seems to enjoy Berry being in her life.
[Even The Cat is enjoying having a same-size playmate in the house.]
So. What do I do with a doggie that doesn't want to snowshoe
all four boots on the ground
when I go out almost every day of my life??
I dress him in a coat and tuck him into a bag and carry him on my back.
That's how we do around here.
That's how I do.
