Beet Season.

*****

Harvest Season.
Mainly, beets, right now, right now today.

This year I chose to plant two varieties of beets,
and
I like the smoother skins and the roundness of the Detroit Dark Red beets,
but we're yet to address taste and body.
I will actually go to the "trouble" to label each jar after processing.
Sometimes I like to view gardening and other activities/events in my life as
science experiments.
Kinda helps me to keep a sense of humour and wonder about things.

And, this year I decided to sow more flower seeds in the garden.
Food for the soul, they are.
The poppies rather crack me up, bringing a smile to my face, and a curiosity about
creation and The Great Why into my every day.
These poppies, as growing in the dirt, have taken over quite a large space,
splaying-about as if crazed and dramatic and all-done-in.
The beautiful thing about them, is, the cut blooms fully open during daylight hours,
shutting down the show and closing up as dark descends.
Crazy how they know to do this.
I think it's a lesson for me.

I sat with my dear friend Roz yesterday afternoon, having carried a bouquet to her,
and she likened the poppies to herself,
sometimes so scattered in her life with her various duties and assignments
that she needs to lay out and lay about until she can pick herself back up again
(with the help of Our Lord)
and get back to it.

So, I'll close here with a simple
Amen.
Because, when you get down to it, that's exactly what I mean when I say
it's a good life.
