the fisherman's bounty: for his selkie wife.

although
i am not overly religious:
i am spiritual.
deeply.

mister pencilfox
went a'fishin' at bonnie lake
and
brought home:
one grayling.
one trout.
he loves to catch fish
for his selkie wife.

i am deathly afraid of open waters
but
at times i feel it is because
i came from said waters.
deep open mysterious waters.
i had fins and a tail
and i swirled 'round and 'round
'til
mister pencilfox
caught me in his net.

so:
as i prepare to eat the bounty
i say a prayer from my childhood raising.

****
bless me, o lord,
and
these thy gifts
which i am about to receive
from thy bounty
through christ our lord.
amen.

****

even selkies pray.

I am not sure what I love the most, your melodious writing, that you come from open waters, the fish, or the prayer of bounties to be received...I suppose all! xoxo

Beautiful writing!
Last time I went fishing was about 20 years ago and I liked it A LOT!
Clams, fish, crab.

Strange paradox: I too am as afraid as you about open water and yet I am a water baby. The oceans are quietly rumbling deep inside my heart which I think is composed of seaweed.
Over the wide open spaces whether desert or sea, my heart races and soars.

I say the same prayer today as the one I learned from
ROMPER ROOM! It's true!
God is Great
God is Good
Let us thank Him for our food
Amen

Thank you Pencilfox. I love landing in your space.
