looking deep within.
********
in august i began the process of deep soul cleansing.
deep.
i have emerged on the other side of it, stronger, more self-assured,
withdrawing from social media,
needing less the approval of others.
while journaling and cleaning out the studio,
i found this photo sent to me by my sister.
our father.
a boy-child but still with those features he took with him into manhood.
there was only six of us paternal grandchildren,
and out of the six, i'm the one who favours our grandmother mamie,
and i'm definitely his,
where my two siblings have obvious maternal traits.
i look at this photo and i see myself.
i see the me i have grown into, today.
i still wear my socks bunched down around my ankles,
and i throw my messenger bag across my shoulder, letting it lay at my hip.
i still have those cheeks, that partial smile.
i stand firmly planted on the ground, whichever ground it be.
i have learned to burn the bridges of the generational aches and pains.
i've cut those ties.
i have put it all behind me, healing from the inside out.
and looking past all the hurt, all the finger-pointing, all the blame for what i feel,
i can look deeper now and see who i am in that little photo.
i'm old, i'm new.
i've living the dream, one day at a time, glad to be alive
and even more glad to be a hinterland coyotegirl.

Your journey gives me hope. Hope of a better life on the other side of the pain and the questions. Thank you, sister, for writing from the heart. xx

you're right-- it is about living the dream, one day at a time, one moment at a time, and glad to be alive!

I am glad your soul is clean.. now where will you fly?
I knew it couldn't have been anyone else! Those cheeks! That half smile!
But, it's papa. Still, a part of you quite obviously.
I could tell these past few months a change was upon you. You've done some deep soul searching and made a pact with yourself it's evident. And it looks good on you, on a girl who is part coyote.
Social media can be so robbing sometimes. I'm taking a step back, like you.
Afterall, nothing changes really. You just start where you left off. You don't miss much.
Not much at all.
I'm reading this:
The Noble Eightfold Path: Way to the End of Suffering
by Bhikkhu Bodhi
Wow. What a way.

You know, I have been wanting to ditch social media for a long while...or at least figure out a way to use it properly even though I don't spend much time with it...you are my inspiration ..sending love and hugs
love and hugs to you….
I put the axe to the root. After years on FB, I deleted my acct a couple of weeks ago. My ego doesn't need it. :) I enjoy the blogs/blogging though because there are such kind people in this realm - so encouraging and beautiful and honest - such as yourself!
