the colours of reason.

********

yesterday afternoon, heading down the highway, southward into town,
i was deep in thought as i watched the setting sun.
i was thinking along these lines --
such a beautiful sunset….i hope others are taking time to look outdoors
at these exquisite colours….
and then i caught the irony twisted into my thinking.
sunset.
3 p.m. and it's "sunset"….

you see, here in the northern part of the northern hemisphere,
we're at the shortest point in our days.
something like 5 hours and some change.
and as i was wrapping my mind around this strange thought,
a calm and peaceful feeling flooded my being.
it's not about the shopping or the planning of a holiday meal,
it's not about spending money, finding that perfect gift.
it's all about the light.
the middle of december onward, approaching solstice,
the colours in the sky,
the late sunrises and the early sunsets,
solstice comes, the day is short, then the next day is a few minutes longer,
and the next, even a few more minutes longer.
then christmas….and then the new year.
it's all about the light.
it's more than the gifts and the spending of money.
it's all about the light and the spirituality of the season.

****

how much light is in your soul right now?
tell me.
what makes this season special for you?
tell me about that, too….
because you, my friends, light up my life and bring me special joy.

****

so, as i wax philosophical,
i leave you with this:

milo has found his spot in the house.
he blesses my heart, daily.
and he is a special light in my life right now….

life is good.

My wonderful family gives me light....even as they drive me crazy (smile). My sweet dog looking in the window at me, the Kat pouncing at my feet. Knowing that my sisterfriend is there. Having good friends I can talk to and laugh with.

Sherpa has planted herself under our Christmas fir. She only leaves her spot to eat and then, back into the woods she goes! Isn't it so cute, these gatos of ours?
It's very reflective for me, this particular time. More so than usual. I'm in deeper thought, my sights are changing, and future plans are ever so prevalent. The mere thought of waking up in my yurt under the mountains of Taos, watching the sun RISE with a cup of coffee, well THAT, my Coyotegirl friend, is what makes this season so special for me. It's an aim. A direction. A vision that seems attainable now. And for this flighty gal, that thought floods my being with peace and a lotta joy.
And my pals across the miles who warm my spirit EVER SO MUCH!!!!

….and that is where i know you find your light, out there, wherever your "out there" may be, because quite often you ARE out there in the nature which brings peace and solace to your spirit.
my red dirt prairie girl sister. you are so special.

the mitts reflect the colors of the sunset, the sky, the snow. beautiful. and mr, milo, light shines from his sweet kitty soul.

somehow, for me, the shorter days and longer nights allow even more light into my soul. there are spaces to fill with dreams. and it's friends like you, like the other wonderful women I blog with, that also bring the light on these winter days. xx
What I love of this season?
Well, I love the introspection, when you feel more and more the necessity of looking inside more than outside and then, at the end of the year I like to close my year taking what I want still with me for the new year, and letting go with love and gratitude what I don't need anymore.

Thanks for sharing such a nice post :)

I'm thinking of all the strong and beautiful women who bring light to my days, who bring light to my spirit, as I prepare to light a Solstice altar.
I hope I have enough candles...

my soul is resplendent, beaming, glowing with an intensity that has been renewed! I have always loved the holidays as a season of hope, joy, and heartfelt goodwill. we have changed many of our traditions over the past few years to better express what this season means for us, and this always means having a solstice gathering. tomorrow night we will have a soup potluck here complete with singing around the fire pit and making our own candles to usher in the return of the *light*. it is so lovely to see your heart lit up, to see you at work with needles and glorious yarn, and to see Milo so content under the tree! a happy, happy season to you and yours, dear friend!

yes, i remember your posts of solstice and the family gathered together!
i wish for a firepit fire, but not possible right now. maybe….maybe….new year's eve.

milo is content. he's trying to undress the tree, has even had some of the ornaments on the floor, unbroken, believe it or not!

happy season to you and yours, to include my gypsy friends!

It has been very foggy and grey here lately - like the sun has gone on vacation... some candle light, some twinkling electric lights around the house and my soul already lifts... all the more the real sun, the Son of God, and then the shining of beautiful ones.... friends, family and even precious blogger friends.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your special light with us.

I seem to have no depth lately. I think you inspired me to go deep. I am being physical and practical . Doing the physical stuff letting my dogs set the schedule of short walks into the forest. Took Carol Fellers online knitting coarse. Wishing Christmas would be over so I wouldn't have to be social. Closer to my husband now that I don't sleep all the time. I think of you often. I want you to be home. Have a Merry Christmas I know you will sing a hymn for someone. That thought comforts me.
