five things on my mind :: february blog-o-sphere think tank.

five things on my mind ::

1.
it really is true -- for me, anyway -- this concept that
the best time to write is first thing of a morning.
thoughts begin streaming in as the heavy velvet-y veil of sleep is passing
from my awareness.
little snippets of dreamtime images linger
but they bow to the words that form and wish to be lay'd via pencil
onto lined journal pages.

2.
i never really thought of myself as a morning person.
but this thing known as retraite is beautiful.
i can go to the bed when i wish -- lavender already my friend --
journal and eversharp at my side table.
i can also wake when i wish
and put images and words to paper.
as they flow, i capture them,
like many winged-things caught in my net.

3.

my spirit whisperers have up to this point been four-legged
with boots on the ground.
protectors, almost.
soldiers, most assuredly.
now my spirit looks upward.
birds are carrying messages to me.
i believe this is because my spirit has been trudging along up to this point,
heavily weighted and wearing dark colours,
leather and fur.
but now, as i look to a higher power for guidance in how to
conduct myself throughout a day,
winged creatures --
feathered and weightless --
speak melodic song messages to my heart.
[remind me to add bird seed to my monthly budget.]

4.

i wish to create art.
i want to paint and/or draw birds.
i have an image in mind --
and it will shortly be on paper.
birds are what i want to capture in image.
colours and textures and hearts and feathers and claws-on-limbs.
birds doing little things that i do.
i am a bird.
i am bird.

5.
sometimes i don't know how to smile.
sometimes everything escapes me.
so, i keep on practicing.
i open myself up to vulnerability.
i lean in to the discomfort.
i keep on rising strong.

This is some really beautiful writing, dear heart. Wow.

I have loads to say about mornings, and writing in the morning, and art and birds, but I won't clog up your comments section. I will say that I first starting noticing birds, *really* noticing birds, not just admiring the drunken robins on my front lawn eating fermented crab apples, but wild birds, birds of prey, carrion birds, high soaring birds, when I went to work on a remote exotic bird "ranch" where macaws, amazon parrots, and cockatoos were raised. The birds were happy there, well cared for, but...enclosed. One of my jobs there was taking about half the day to specially prepare food - fruit, vegetables, grains, etc. for the birds and take this around to the enclosures to feed everyone. This was on a remote property in the southern Oregon mountains, and I started to acutely feel the presence of the wild birds. Wild birds were free. These beautifully plumed, vibrant tropical birds were not. The wild birds kept me moving forward, moving onward.
